The Injection Molding Process of PC

As we all know, PC is commonly known as polycarbonate, which has excellent mechanical properties, so it is commonly known as bulletproof rubber. PC has the characteristics of high mechanical strength, wide operating temperature ranges, good electrical insulation performance, good dimensional stability, and transparency. It can be used in many situations. For example, it is widely used in electrical products, electrical instrument housings, and structural parts of electronic products. There are many modified products for PC, usually adding glass fibers, mineral fillers, chemical flame retardants, and other plastics. However, PC has poor fluidity and high processing temperatures. The processing of modified materials requires a special plastic injection structure. This is one of the characteristics of the PC.

Generally speaking, the water absorption rate of PC is relatively high, and it must be preheated and dried before processing. Pure PC is dried at 120°C, and the drying time must be accurate. Modified PC is generally dried at 110°C for more than 4 hours. However, the drying time cannot exceed 10 hours. Generally, the air extrusion method can be used to judge whether the drying is sufficient. The use ratio of recycled materials can reach 20%. In some specific cases, 100% recycled materials can be used, and the actual amount depends on the quality requirements of the products. Recycled materials cannot be mixed with masterbatches with different colors, otherwise, the properties of the finished product will be seriously damaged, which should be paid attention more.

The selection of the injection molding machine
How does the manufacturer choose raw materials? The modified material is used more for PC due to costs and other reasons, especially electrical products. The fire resistance should also be increased. When the flame retardant PC and other plastic alloy products are molded, the requirements for the plasticizing system of the injection molding machine are good mixing and corrosion resistance, which is difficult for conventional plasticizing screws. Therefore, it should be taken seriously when choosing a product.

The design of the injection mold and gate
Optimize the design at any time. Common injection mold temperatures are 80 to 100℃, and adding glass fiber is 100 to 130℃, which is a very suitable temperature. Needle gates can be used for small products, the gate depth should be 70% of the thickest part, and other gates are annular and rectangular. This is a requirement in terms of shape. The bigger the gate is, the easier it is to reduce the defects caused by excessive shearing of the plastic. To avoid defects, you should work on the gate. The depth of the exhaust hole should be less than 0.03 to 0.06mm, and the runner should be as short and round as possible. In this way, the optimization can be done at its best.

Both mechanical properties and temperature ranges of PC are very superior. PC also has the characteristics of good insulation and stable dimensions, which can be used in many situations. Of course, the fire performance of PC is also good. The mold temperature of PC is also very mild and stable. Also, the design of the gate size is a very important part. The bigger the gate is, the better it becomes. We are committed to the injection molding and transformation of PC's performance, which fully reflects the professionalism of the dedicated injection molding factory.
